Here in AZ

I thought I would just let the few of you who might be reading this blog that I am indeed in Arizona. Life here is pretty good. I eat well, I have lots of homework to keep me busy, I go to work in my pj's most of the time, and I am starting to make friends at my church functions. Leon and Jen are wonderful and do all they can to make me feel at home. But it is nothing like home. It's to quite and its kinda of ugly here. HAHA! I miss my mountains and my trees. All we have here are some really bit dirt hills with Cati on them. But I'm adjusting. some day I'll think the loopsided Cati are pretty.... maybe I kind of doubt that... ;)

Phish -Chapter 1- The Fateful beginning
OH MY GOSH HE IS HOT! That’s all I could think of, as my friend from first grade brought her cousin over to meet us. We are at a church dance and low and behold some one actually attractive might ask me to dance! I was shocked! How could some one like that even be allowed to live out side of Hollywood? He was tall. (not as tall as my brothers but about 6 feet none the less) with brown hair, green eyes that stood out because he was wearing a green tie with a white shirt underneath and black slacks. And good heavens I was smitten.
But so was my friend Christy. She walks up to him before I could even catch my breath and introduce my self. She flipped her hair and was dosing out the charm in buckets! AH! Why couldn’t I be a flirt like that! WHY? He introduced himself to the group of girls before him as Michael. (isn’t that beautiful name? Michael … sigh) He had an amazing voice too. A tenor voice soothing and refreshing with a slight rasp to it that made you want to walk closer to capture every word.
Ok Soraya you aren’t having any one talk! You are just describing Michael. We know that you think he’s hot! But don’t you think that you should at lest let us hear what he sounds like instead of you just gibbering on.
Ok, ok… I think your right Missy but I’m having a hard time remembering what he said. I was in such a state of “oh my goodness”-ness that I don’t even remember if he looked at me. I was kind of busy looking at him.
All right well let me take over for a bit and explain the setting a bit more. Soraya might have been the only one in the whole gym who realized that Michael had green eyes because the room was dark, you know, like school dances, right? Flashing lights in a dark room loud music playing. Yeah you get the picture. And everyone was in church attire. Dress, skirts, white button up shirts, blouses. Soraya was in a black skirt with white and pink flowers on it and a pink sweater. I was in white blouse and a blue skirt. Christy was in a black top with a white under shirt showing through the v neck and a red skirt. Beth was in a tan skirt and orange shirt. And all the girls had there shoes off from dancing the whole night. Well standing not dancing as Michael might say.
“Um why is everyone sitting or standing? Isn’t this supposed to be a dance?” Said Michael looking thoroughly and honestly confused. “In Florida everyone would mosh-pitting and no one was every really sitting…”
Christy giggled… Grrrrr!
Calm down Soraya. That’s just how Christy is, don’t freak!
I know but it’s what she did afterwards that still gets me.
It shouldn’t it did happen over 2 years ago. We’ve all changed.
She grabbed his tie, Melissa! She was flirting with my love at first sight! She was asking him to dance! Girls don’t ask guys to dance. Guys ask girls remember?
I know. I know. Do me a favor and breathe so we can continue on with the story. I haven’t even said anything.
You had a headache you didn’t say much all night.
Oh yeah. Hummm…. I haven’t even told you that I had a headache!
Ok fine back to the story.
After Christy disgustingly took his tie and walked on to the dance floor (did I mention
this was a church dance!) and Michael and her were doing the wobble thing (you know girl has hands on shoulders, guy hands on waist and they just sort of wobble across the dance floor) Melissa walked away and sat in the corner. Beth wandered away after a guy asked her to dance. I was still left in a daze. I’m surprised Michael hadn’t waved his hand if front of my face to see if I was really staring at him.
You don’t give your self enough credit Soraya. You are a very discrete starer.
Why thank you Melissa; anyways, after I realized that I was standing alone in the middle of a dance floor I went to go find Missy. She was up against the wall on the floor. Her knees were brought up to her stomach and she had her arms wrapped around her legs. And her head was down in her knees.
I sat next to her. “What’s wrong?” I asked. Wow I’m amazed I could think of any thing else in the presence of beauty such as like Michael’s.
I then groaned and said “I have a head ache.” Ha! I said something in the story now! I’m in the story; I’m in the story! Hehehehehehe
Yes Missy. This isn’t the best time to freak out. This is the part you all most ruin my love life for ever!
It was never my fault! I had a headache. I didn’t ask you to worry about me.
Ok so back to the main part of the story. I was sitting on the floor next to Melissa and she was complaining of a headache. Christy was dancing with Michael and Beth…. I don’t remember where Beth was…. Sigh… when a guy is a hottie, like Michael, I couldn’t help but forget about what was going on around me…. Any ways! Meagan continued to sit to with her head down. I rubbed her back feeling bad for my best friend. It really stunk to have your body acting up when you where trying to have fun. Believe me, I would know.
It was about now then that the song ended with loud up beat music interrupting my thoughts. Beth found us first, she sighed. “I don’t count seventh graders as dance partners. We didn’t move. We swayed.” She sighed again and sat down next to us.
Christy and Michael didn’t return for quite a while. I started to let my heart free. If Christy had this good of a hold on him already I might as well give up. No point in getting my hopes up any more. Christy was fun, attractive and the biggest flirt on the planet. Not to mention she always got the guys she wanted. It was my turn to sigh.
“Why this looks like a happy bunch!” It was Michael looking extremely to happy.
“Where have you been?” Asked Beth
“I was trying to find you guys.” He said shrugging. This was a sign of lying! “You guys are hard to spot when you are sitting of the floor.” He laughed after that. It was a sweet laugh…. NO MUSTN’T THINK LIKE THAT CHRISTY HAS CAST HER SPELL! HE’S DOOMED! YOU HEAR ME DOOMED! Speaking of Christy, where was she?
As if Missy had read my thoughts she asked; “Where is Christy?”
“She ran off as soon as she saw a friend of hers…” His smile was gone. Did he miss her that much all ready? How does Christy do it!?
Well first she is a born flirt. Second she does her hair. You just comb it out and leave it down or pull it up in a pony tail.
OR A HALF PONEY TAIL!
You see my point then.
Okay, I’ve had enough of you. Go away so I can continue with the story.
I’ll stay right here just in case you have any other silly questions like the last one.
Thanks Missy I feel so loved. Here I am sitting with you on the floor and you make fun of me.
We weren’t sitting on the floor for much longer. I think it was at this point that I let out another groan, and we left for the foyer.
That’s right we did; which made what Michael did even cuter! hehe… he is amazing!
I thought you gave up on him.
I did, at that point; but when you and I were out in the foyer and Micheal came out and asked me to dance at the next slow song! I nearly fainted.
Soraya you sure are taking a lot of artistic license with this you know.
No I’m not. This is all truth.
Stop making your self look like this bubble headed ditz. When Micheal asked you to dance you stood up and said “I would love to.” And you guys went back in and danced. While I sat wishing I could go home.
You don’t remember me nearly fainting because that’s what was happening on the inside of me.
Sure, sure. Just explain what happened why you two were dancing alright. And please stop being so ditsy.
Ok fine, realest, here we go. I was worried about Missy and her head ache and I had already given up on Michael. Christy had won. And I was 15 years old. So with all of those excuses I didn’t talk much. I looked off to the side and stared into space thinking, worrying and answering when necessary. I did nothing to promote the conversation. I don’t remember what we talked about, but I do remember that I was upset that Christy had won so easily and I decided then and there not to give up. But after the dance I wasn’t stupid enough to break my vow of silence and all of a sudden start talking half way through…. That would have been silly.
The next day at school I was at my locker and getting my books out for my next class. I grumbled and cursed who ever had come up with the stupid rule of no back packs aloud in classes. I slammed my locker shut and jumped. Rachel was standing behind it. Rachel was this new girl from Florida. She was so cute, and extremely talented. She could sing like no one else I knew. We were in choir classes together.
“Oh Rachel you surprised me.” I said letting out a puff of air.
“Oh, sorry! How was the dance?” she asked, bubbly as always. The thoughts about the back pack rule flew from my mind. Rachel had the presence that made it so no matter what you did you had to smile around her.
“The dance was great!” I said. “there was this really cute guy there from Florida. Do you know Beth Write? He is her cousin.”
“Oh yeah I know Beth! And I know Mike too. He’s my Brother.”
“Oh that’s cool! You should tell him I can start dating as of September 11th.” The words where out my mouth before I knew it, what had I just done?
She smiled and said “Okay! Come on lets head to class together!”
I started walking still slightly in a daze and then I realized “I never said the cute guy from Florida was named Mike….”
Rachel just laughed and said “Beth told me you thought he was cute”
The school year past slowly and I didn’t see Michael, or Mike, again. Yeah I’m going to call him Mike. Rachel told me stories about her family during school once in awhile but that wasn’t much. My crush slowly started to fade. Until it was all but not.
After the school year was over I went on camping trip with my church. I was put in the same ‘family’ as Rachel. She would drag me to go find Beth and Mike. So I saw him but didn’t talk to him. I know dork as all ways…
That’s right you’re a dork! But then we shouldn’t blame you that’s just how you were born.
Wow Missy glad to hear that you are still with us.
Yeah I’ve been feeling left out so I thought I would jump in…
And slap me! So very kind of you…
Your welcome!
Back to the story…
No need to sound so angry.
After the summer was over, the new school year started. Rachel was left in ninth grade and the rest of us moved up to tenth grade and high school. I knew Mike was going to be there but I had no idea what kind of impact that would have on my life and my friends.
But so was my friend Christy. She walks up to him before I could even catch my breath and introduce my self. She flipped her hair and was dosing out the charm in buckets! AH!
